Robert V. Peterson, 94
Apr 10, 2018Peterson, 94, of Westminster, Md., died March 18, 2018, at The Colestock Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Quincy Village, Quincy, Pa., following a brief illness.Born Oct. 6, 1923, in Frederick, S.D., he was the son of the late Edward C. and Elizabeth A. Peterson. He was the husband of Pauline D. Peterson, who died Jan. 30, 2007, after 63 years of marriage. He is survived by wife, Sylvia J. Creamer, whom he married May 9, 2009.He was a 1941 graduate of Frederick High School and attended Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D., until entering the Army in 1943. He served three years, including eleven months in Okinawa with the 74th Field Hospital. He was recalled for 10 months active duty during the Korean War.He retired from S.H. Tevis & Son Inc. as general manager Nov. 1, 1983. In retirement, he was on the local board of the American Cancer Society and drove patients for treatments for many years. He also volunteered with the Red Cross and the American Heart Association.He served as treasurer of the Timber Ridge Foundation for eight years. He was a charter member of the Carroll Carvers and enjoyed woodcarving wild fowl.He was a former member of the Carroll County Choral Society and a former member of the Senior Singers. He was a member of Carroll Post 31 American Legion, Post 467 of the VFW, the Door To Virtue Lodge, AF & AM, Scottish Rite, Boumi Shrine Temple, Western Maryland Shrine Club, Westminster Rotary Club (serving 18 years as secretary), and Mt. Zion Methodist Church.In addition to his wife, Sylvia J. Creamer, he is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Peggy S. Peterson and Kenneth T. Plesser of Gilbert, S.C.; son, Robert L. Peterson of Castro Marim, Portugal; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce E. and Christine J. Peterson of Greencastle, Pa.; sisters-in-law, Siri Peterson of Lombard, Ill., and Betty Muhl of Pasadena, Md.; granddaughter, Stacey L. and husband Kevin Crawford of Hagerstown, Md.; grandson, Scott T. and wife Jessica Peterson of Greencastle, Pa.
